Technology is transforming transportation and our jobs in revolutionary ways. Within DOT we are becoming more dependent upon one another other and are relying on information technology to collaborate across organizations. We also see enormous opportunities to improve how we provide information and services to the public. Looking to the future, we know that the demand for technology, data and services will grow. Recognizing the opportunities and challenges ahead, the DOT Chief Information Officer's Council was created to help leverage technology and to grapple with issues associated with managing a complex and diffuse technology environment. The Council is chaired by the Departmental CIO and includes the CIOs or senior IT officials from our thirteen operating entities. Ex officio members include representatives from the CFO, Inspector General and General Counsel's offices. The Council addresses departmental information strategies and management issues and works together on cross-cutting issues and projects. A support structure consisting of the IT Security, IT Architecture, Capital Planning, E-government and Workforce Issues committees was established to bring focus on these priority Council areas. |
